Sometimes the best ideas are the ones you never planned on having.
The Counter Kingdom Halloween started with nothing more than a random thought during some downtime: What would “Boo To You” sound like as a post-hardcore song?
There was no plan for another Counter Kingdom release. No tracklist waiting to be filled. No grand Halloween music project looming on the calendar.
It just sounded fun.
So we opened the gates to The Counter Kingdom one more time.
Using the same musical DNA that helped shape our reimagining of “Happily Ever After,” we sent “Boo To You” crashing into distorted guitars, melodic hooks, screams, gang vocals, and the kind of chaotic energy that feels right at home in a Halloween parade.
And somehow, it worked immediately.
The very first version captured exactly what we were looking for. We explored a few other variations, but sometimes you know the moment you hear it. The first one had the energy. It had the personality. Most importantly, it was fun.
“Boo To You” had officially entered The Counter Kingdom.
But something else happened along the way.
As we began developing the artwork surrounding the song, an old, forgotten Halloween amusement park started emerging from the shadows.
We called it Midnight Amusements.
Populated by grinning pumpkins, ghosts, skeletons, witches, mischievous creatures, and all kinds of rubber-hose weirdos, Midnight Amusements quickly became the imaginative home of The Counter Kingdom Halloween a strange little place that feels like it has always existed somewhere inside the Leal Legacy universe.
For “Boo To You,” the gates are open and the residents have taken to the streets.
The parade has begun.
“Boo To You” is the opening track from The Counter Kingdom Halloween, a two-song seasonal release from Leal Legacy Music featuring two wildly different interpretations of Disney Halloween nostalgia.
The second track, “Trick or Treat for Halloween,” trades the screams and distortion for vintage doo-wop sweetness.
Two songs.
Two sounds.
One strange little Halloween record.
